BlackBerry have asked for an investigation into an analyst's claim that Z10 phones are being returned by customers more than being bought, calling the report 'false and misleading'

The Wall Street Journal published an article last week quoting Detwiler analyst Jeff Johnston saying, "We believe key retail partners have seen a significant increase in Z10 returns to the point where, in several cases, returns are no exceeding sales, a phenomenon we have never seen before."

BlackBerry responded to the statement to say that its claim was absolutely false and that data showed that return rates for BlackBerry Z10 devices both in the U.S. and globally are in line with, or better than expectations.

CEO Thorsten Heins says, "Such a conclusion is absolutely without basis and BlackBerry will not leave it unchallenged," cnet reports.

BlackBerry have now requested the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the Ontario Securities Commission, which regulate stock markets, carry out an investigation into the report on the grounds that the analyst has refused to provide evidence to support the claim.

The BlackBerry boss also said, "Sales of the BlackBerry Z10 are meeting expectations and the data we have collected from our retail and carrier partners demonstrates that customers are satifised with their devices."

BlackBerry reported that sales of the Z10 have reached 1 million in the first quarter, despite only being on sale for one month in some countries.

The company also launched 'takeover' adverts on Android and iPhone devices last month to promote sales.

Analyst Johnston did say, along with other anaylsts, that they expect the BlackBerry Q10 to sell much better.
